Grinding or Squealing From the Freezer
This almost always means the evaporator fan motor is on its way out, or its blade has started clipping a buildup of ice.
Fix: The fan motor is a routine, replaceable part.
Buzzing or Humming From the Back
A persistent hum from behind the unit often traces to the condenser fan or a compressor that's struggling to start.
Fix: Clear debris around the condenser fan; if the hum continues along with clicking, have the compressor relay tested.
Knocking or Rattling
Loose drip pans, coiled refrigerant tubing, or a cabinet that isn't sitting level can all vibrate against the floor or nearby surfaces.
Fix: Level the unit and secure anything that's rattling loose.
