When the freezer runs colder than it's set to — or produce in the fridge starts icing over — something in the temperature-control chain has gone out of balance.
Check the Temperature Settings
It only takes bumping the dial or touch panel during a cleaning session to shift the setting colder without noticing.
Fix: Dial the fridge back to 37°F (3°C) and the freezer to 0°F (-18°C), then give it a full day before judging the result.
Damper Control Stuck Open
The damper doles out cold air from the freezer into the fridge compartment. When it jams open, too much cold air flows through and anything near the vent freezes solid.
Fix: A technician swaps the damper assembly — once the interior panel is off, it's a fast job.
Faulty Thermistor
When the thermistor misreads the internal temperature, it tells the control board to keep chilling long after the target has been reached.
Fix: Swapping the thermistor is a low-cost fix and clears up the large majority of over-freezing complaints.
