Ice makers tend to fail in a handful of predictable ways. Starting with the water supply and finishing with the hardware keeps you from replacing parts that were never broken.
Confirm Water Is Reaching the Unit
A pinched or shut-off supply line is behind more no-ice complaints than any other cause.
Fix: Check that the saddle valve behind the refrigerator is fully open and that the line isn't kinked anywhere along its run.
Frozen Fill Tube
The narrow tube that feeds water into the mold is prone to freezing shut, which leaves you with little to no ice.
Fix: Warm it gently with a hair dryer on low heat; if ice returns quickly, the fill valve is likely leaking and needs to be swapped.
Ice Maker Module or Inlet Valve
When water is clearly getting through but the mold never cycles, suspect either the ice maker's motor module or the water inlet valve.
Fix: Both parts are replaceable — a quick voltage check tells a technician which one has failed.
