Overheating is the single most safety-critical dryer issue there is. Stop running the machine until you've ruled out a blocked vent.
Restricted Venting
A packed lint screen or a clogged vent duct traps hot air inside with no way out.
Fix: Clean the lint screen every load, and have the full vent run professionally cleared once a year.
Failed Cycling Thermostat
This thermostat is what regulates drum temperature; if it sticks in the closed position, the dryer keeps heating past where it should stop.
Fix: Replacing it is a standard repair, but only after you've also fixed whatever caused any blockage.
Clogged Blower Wheel
Lint that slips past the screen can pack itself into the blower wheel and choke off airflow from there.
Fix: A technician can clean out or replace the blower assembly as needed.
