Dishwasher Not Drying Dishes: Why and How to Fix

Dishes coming out still wet at the end of the cycle usually trace back to rinse aid, a load of plastics, or a heating element that's given out.

Modern dishwashers depend on heat and rinse aid working together to dry dishes. When one of those is missing, dishes stay wet.

Refill the Rinse Aid

Rinse aid breaks water's surface tension so it sheets off the dishes instead of beading up and sitting there.

Fix: Keep the rinse-aid reservoir filled and consider bumping the dosage setting higher.

Eco or energy-saver modes often skip the heated-dry step entirely to save power, which leaves dishes noticeably damp.

Fix: Select heated dry manually, or crack the door open at the end of the cycle to let steam escape.

An element that's failed provides no heat for drying, and usually weakens the wash performance too.

Fix: A technician can test the element and replace it if it's gone open-circuit.
