Dishwasher Not Cleaning Dishes Properly

Gritty or filmy dishes coming out of the wash usually mean blocked spray arms, a dirty filter, or a loading mistake — none of which are hard to fix.

A dishwasher leaving dishes dirty is rarely on its last legs — it's almost always a water-flow issue or how the rack is loaded.

Clean the Filter

A clogged filter just recirculates dirty water back over your dishes with every cycle.

Fix: Pull the filter out at the bottom of the tub and rinse it clean once a week.

Clear the Spray Arm Jets

Mineral scale and stray bits of food plug the spray holes, weakening the wash pressure.

Fix: Remove the spray arms and clear each jet individually with a toothpick or a piece of wire.

Load and Dose Correctly

An overcrowded rack blocks water from reaching every surface, and detergent that's sat open too long loses its cleaning power.

Fix: Leave breathing room between items, and store detergent somewhere dry and use it while it's fresh.
