Microwave Door Won't Close or Latch

The door interlocks exist purely for safety, so any fault with the latch disables the whole unit until it's fixed.

Inspect the Latch Hooks

The plastic hooks mounted on the door can crack or bind up over time.

Fix: Examine them closely for damage — a broken latch assembly needs full replacement.

Crumbs and debris lodged in the latch slots keep the hooks from ever engaging properly.

Fix: Clean out the recesses on the front of the cabinet.

Interlock switches that have shifted out of alignment will read a closed door as open.

Fix: A technician can realign or replace the switch stack as needed.
