Most washers that fail early do so because of avoidable stress, not bad luck. Build these six habits in and you'll add years of reliable service.

Do Not Overload

Packing the drum too full puts extra strain on both the bearing and the motor.

Fix: Keep loads to about three-quarters capacity so clothes have room to actually move.

Leave the Door Open

A front-loader sealed shut between washes traps moisture and becomes a breeding ground for mold.

Fix: Prop the door and detergent dispenser open between loads.

Clean Monthly and Check Hoses

Detergent residue accumulates over time, and rubber hoses age and eventually burst.

Fix: Run a monthly cleaning cycle and swap out fill hoses roughly every five years.
